On August 12-14, 2013, the Children’s Bureau will host the third National Child Welfare Evaluation Summit. Building on the successes of the 2009 and 2011 Summits, the Children’s Bureau will again convene child welfare professionals and stakeholders from across the country, representing a variety of jurisdictions, institutions, roles, disciplines, and perspectives, to discuss evaluation and evidence in child welfare. Similar to previous Summits, the 2013 National Child Welfare Evaluation Summit will offer plenary, workshop, roundtable, and poster sessions on a diversity of topics related to Building Evidence, Strengthening Practice, and Informing Policy.
The Children’s Bureau is particularly interested in the utility of evaluation when planning for change, building knowledge about program and policy interventions, and effectively spreading information and innovation. Participants will have opportunities to discuss how evaluation expertise and methods can be used more effectively to:
- Formulate and refine questions or areas of inquiry
- Explore and assess problems and populations within various contexts
- Examine and articulate the theory underlying practice, program, or policy
- Set meaningful and achievable objectives, action steps, benchmarks, and outcomes
- Inform the development, selection, and/or adaptation of interventions
- Monitor processes, provide feedback, and support program improvement
- Measure the efficacy, effectiveness, and impact of interventions
- Monitor and support effective dissemination and implementation
